Our logo
contains the fish hook and the shepherd’s staff.
The fish hook
reminds us that St. Peter, the fisherman, was told by Jesus to catch
men. It shows that we want to be a REACHING church.
Our logo also
uses the shepherd’s staff which reminds us of Immanuel, or Jesus, who
said, “Feed My lambs and sheep.” It shows us that Jesus wants us to be
a TEACHING church.
Finally, the
cross formed by these two symbols is a statement that we are a
PREACHING church. We preach that Christ was crucified for us to
have eternal life in heaven.
REACHING
We believe that
The Bible is the
true Word of God.
(2 Timothy 3:16)
Man is born
sinful.
(Romans 3:23)
Man would be
lost forever were it not for God’s great live for all of us. Because of
that love, He sent His Son to make payment for man’s sins.
(John 3:16)
Jesus Christ,
Son of God, died on the cross and rose from the dead, so that man -
through faith in Him -
might know
everlasting life.
(Acts 16:31)
We respond to
God’s love because He first loved us. We, therefore, seek to carry out
Jesus’ Great Commission to share with both young and old the Gospel of
Christ.
(Matthew
28:19-20)
TEACHING
We believe the
Holy Spirit uses God’s Word to enable all to be believing, practicing,
and witnessing disciples of Jesus Christ. We believe that through God’s
Word and Sacraments, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we grow in our
personal relationship in Christ.
We support and
maintain an accredited Christian Day School for grades Junior
Kindergarten through 8th. All subjects are taught in
relation to God’s Word.
We support and
encourage Bible Study all ages during our “Power Hour.” We have a
Sunday school for ages 3 through 5th grade, Jr. youth (middle
school) and Sr. youth (high school) Bible studies, and Bible studies for
adults on various topics.
We also offer
Confirmation instruction for youth and adults.
Our Faith
This congregation accepts and confesses all the canonical books of the
Old and New Testaments as the revealed Word of God, verbally inspired,
and all the confessional writings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
contained in the Book of Concord of the year1580, to be the true and
genuine exposition of the doctrines of the Bible. These
confessional writings are the three (3) Ecumenical Creeds:
Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian; the Unaltered Augsburg Confession; the
Apology of the Augsburg Confession; the Smallcald Articles; Luther's
Large and Small Catechism; and the Formula of Concord. |
WHO WE ARE
St.
Peter-Immanuel is one body of Christ which resulted from the merger of
two congregations - St. Peter Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran.
The St. Peter
congregation was founded in 1848 as a country church. In 1958 the
church purchased and built a church on the present site at 76th
and Acacia Streets. Nine pastors served the St. Peter congregation.
The Immanuel
congregation was organized in 1866 at 12th and Garfield
Streets. During the 1920s, while located at Teutonia and Meinecke
Streets, it became the largest congregation in the Lutheran Church
Missouri Synod. This congregation was served by nine pastors as well.
The St.
Peter-Immanuel congregation was formed in 1973 when the Immanuel
congregation sold its property and merged with the St. Peter
congregation. Eight full-time pastors have served St. Peter-Immanuel.
