Malachi 3:1 “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me.”

Greetings!  You have just entered the “Preparation Season.”  What preparations are you in the process of to make this the best Christmas ever?  What will make this the best Christmas?

Generally, when individuals prepare for an event they start with the magical list.  If you are at all like me, you take your calendar and work backwards filling in the activities that will consume you’re waking hours with final preparations put towards the day of celebration and things that will stay intact for longer periods of time being done first.  On my list, I also put at least one cleaning activity, one baking activity, one exercise activity and a devotion on each day in the month of December.  As time gets closer, I generally clean first and do all the cooking as close to the celebration as possible.  This is necessary because as the saying goes, If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail.

As I stated before you just entered the “preparation season.”  Preparing for the celebration of Christmas requires intentional planning.  Planning for the birth of Jesus and for His return should also require the same purposeful scheduling.  As of yesterday, you entered into the season of Advent.  This is the special time of year where one plans for Jesus’ birthday celebration.

Many families use an Advent wreath to help them focus on this special event.  Four weeks prior to Christmas they light candles on a circle of evergreen branches.  Reminders that assist us in recalling the events which lead up to the special day centering on the Advent wreath are:

The wreath is round because Jesus’ love for us never ends.

Evergreens are chosen because they stay green all year which indicates life.

Red berries may be on the wreath to remind us of the blood that was shed when Jesus died on the cross.

Candles are lit to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world.

Normally all the candles are blue except for the pink one that is lit the third week to remind us of joy.  Blue is the color of hope.

So as you make your preparations for Christmas continue to prepare your hearts and minds for the celebration that connects believers to Jesus’ birthday.

Happy Preparation Season!!

Girl Scouts:

The Brownie Girl Scouts (1st – 3rd grade) have been busy this year. They earned their first Try-It badge in October by visiting the Germantown Petco to learn about animals. They learned about birds, turtles, tortoises, fish, rats and guinea pigs. In November they learned about Science and will be visiting the Discovery World Museum to continue learning and earn the Science Wonders Try-It badge. They also learned how to “move-it” when Jazzercise came to the meeting to earn the Dancercize Try-It badge. In December, we will be having a holiday party and prepare for our fundraiser.

It’s almost time for COOKIES!! The Girl Scout Cookie sale will run from January 9 – 28, 2009 and can be ordered from any girl scout.
