PASTORS WEISS' CORNER

THANK
THE LORD!
This does not just have to be a phrase that is
thrown into the mix when someone gets really excited, it could in fact
be an expression that comes from the very core of our being.
And then we may want the next sentence to begin
with the word “but”.
But these are really tough times
financially.
Or, but, there are some serious health
issues in my or my family’s life right now.
And our list of “but” statements could go
on and on.
For the Christian, a national day of thanksgiving
still begins with thanking the God of the universe that he has given us
His undeserved mercy, which accepts us into His presence forever.
It is not that He loaded us up with lots of
things, it is that He has poured His unlimited love upon us.
Thank God in spite of the economic downturn.
Thank God in spite of your health.
Thank God even as you grieve the death of a
dear friend or family member.
Thank God because He has never come close
to abandoning His plan of salvation for all people.
Stop!
Reflect! Celebrate! Eat some turkey.
Even enjoy some football.
In the end, take time to thank God for
being your God who never will abandon his forever plans for you.
Have a blessed
Thanksgiving,
Pastor Don Weiss

Pastor Little's Corner
"Give Thanks to the Lord for He is Good and His Love
Endures Forever", as King David led God's chosen people Israel in praise to God for
delivering them from their enemies. During the Month of November, we set
aside a special Day of Thanksgiving giving thanks to God in an
expression of our appreciation for His countless blessings toward us as
His Children by Faith in the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. Brothers and
Sisters in Christ, God's Love endures forever, which we have seen from
generation to generation.
It is also during this period of the Church Year that
we will conclude the Season of Pentecost and look with anxious
anticipation for the Season of Advent, during which time the Church of Christ reflects
on how God is preparing His People for the Second Coming of Our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ.
Therefore, during this very special time of year as
you gather with family and friends to celebrate with prayers of
thanksgiving on Thanksgiving Day, I urge you also to include a prayer
that captures King David's song of praise: "Give Thanks to the Lord for
He is Good and His Love endures Forever."

school news
James 2:23 “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned
to him as righteousness, and he was called the
friend of God.”
We’re entering the time of year when friends and
family members are at the forefront of what we do.
Who will be at your Thanksgiving table this year? Will you need
to expand your table or has it shrunk?
While you may invite many, some may not be able to attend because
of distance, another commitment or serving our country.
Some may be spending their first Thanksgiving celebration at the
table of Jesus and you will miss that open space set for that person at
your earthly table.
However, those around that table most likely know you
fairly well. They know the
good, joy-filled person you can be and they also know the unhappy,
complaining side as well.
Yet, at that table they will lovingly look forward to spending time with
you – whether you are joy-filled or complaining.
After all, they like you.
Having loving relationships is part of God’s plan for each of us.
So take time to enjoy those special friends and family members?
Oh and by the way did you remember to invite your best friend
–Jesus- to your Thanksgiving table?

Food pantry
Because
Hunger Task Force has its fiscal year
from October to September, we have ended another year. For the
year, we have served 1,897 families. (4,648 people). The amount of
food that we have given out is over 49,500 pounds. Thanks be to
God for the contributions that our congregation has given and also for
all of Hunger Task Forces help.
Without this, we would not have been able to serve our community.
Also thanks to God for the wonderful volunteers we have. Our
people work very hard at keeping our Food
Pantry going. We have 30 to 35 people who help during the month
and are always ready to do more when asked. What a blessing!!!
Please continue to bring your non-perishable food products and paper
bags. Place them in the school hallway in the proper containers.
Sugar Free products are specially needed
as we have many diabetic people coming. We are always in need of
crackers, cereals, canned fruit, cookies and cake mixes.

on going fundraisers
There are many on going fund raisers here at SPI.
You can: Save cans, used ink cartridges and old cell phones.
We recycle them and have made hundreds of dollars over the years
on these. Simply bring to
the hallway between the Narthex and the school.
Gift cards:
Pick n Save and Kohl’s.
Gift cards are available in the office between 8:30 AM and 4:00
PM. You get the full value
and we get a small percentage for you using them.
Win/Win!
Candy bars:
$1.00 each and all the money goes towards the 6-8 grade class
trip to New Orleans.
(2009)
Thrivent Matching Funds: If you
are a Thrivent member you may make a donation to the school and Thrivent
will match 50% of it. If you
check the volunteer box we get an additional $25.00.
If you need a suggestion as to where the money should go: We are
looking to expand and update our computer lab, help to finance buses for
class field trips and to bring in more assemblies.
